Research Interests

Preclinical research, Transgenic animal production and Genetic disorders

Dr. Pramod graduated in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry in 2008 from COVAS, Mannuthy, Kerala. Further, he completed MVSc and PhD in Animal Genetics and Breeding from Indian Veterinary Research Institute, UP. He has held several research and academic positions, including Scientist D at DBT–THSTI, Faridabad; Scientist at AgriGenome Labs, Cochin; and Postdoctoral Fellow at Seoul National University, South Korea. At IVRI, Dr. Pramod worked on animal transgenesis using sperm- and testis-mediated gene transfer methods. During his postdoctoral tenure, he contributed to the project “Development of germ cell transfer technique using quail spermatogonial stem cells as a model for the restoration of endangered birds.”

At AgriGenome Labs, he contributed to pioneering research on the mitochondrial genome of Indian cattle and whole-genome sequencing of Bos indicus. At THSTI, he established a mouse germplasm cryopreservation facility and contributed to laboratory animal genetic and health monitoring, quality assurance, and training programmes. He also investigated the role of small RNAs in the pathogenesis of gestational diabetes mellitus.

At ICMR-NIPCR, his research focuses on generating genetically modified mouse models using CRISPR/Cas9 technology for neurodegenerative disorders and rare genetic diseases. He is actively involved in preclinical efficacy and safety studies and has contributed to the development ofCDX NSG mouse model for cancers, mouse model for FOP, guinea pig model for Chandipura virus research, etc. He is actively involved in the genetic monitoring of different laboratory animalspecies and developed a non-invasive method for genetic screening of laboratory NHPs. In addition, he actively contributes to doctoral education, research training, and academic mentoring.
